- La Maison de Harnes Chronique du Faux Turpin
Demarquette, M. A.
The the author, Demarquette
writes about the de Harne -de Haerne line in Flanders the history
of the family of Michel de Harne, a hero knight of the Battle
of the Bouvines and the Knight crusader, between 963 - 1230, his
line is covered. Michel, a knight of Phillip Augustus court, a
caviler and trubadour, Michel de Harne translated the Chronicle
of the False Turpin from the Latin to French for Phillip.
The armes depicted in the opening page are of the Abbey the family
founded. This Michel, as there are subsequent desendants, was
so well noted he is named and his image depicted in a manuscript
of Phillip and his knights kneeling in prayer before the re-knowned
battle of the Bouvines. Michel is noted in Phillip Mouskes tribute
to Calvaliers. 1856. French, 1st ed. Rare Hardcover red cloth
spine embossed. Fine. Listed for reference and research only.

- The Longmeadow Centennial Storrs, R.S.
The Centennial Celebration of the town of Longmeadow, Hampden
county Massachusetts. The town was settled in 1644 and incorporated
in 1783. This is one of the lovliest town histories I have had
the pleasure to read. Not filled with the usual facts and figures
it has story after story of the people who helped make Longmeadow
Mass. Some amusing such as the Daupin Williams, some sorrowful
as we read of a civil war hero's trip home as his father keeps
his promise of burying his son at home were he belongs, not in
a long forgotten battlefield amidst the hundreds of unknowns.
The story from Issac Coomes Civil war diary which written in the
1800's amuses fans of The Band of Brothers of this century as
he runs past the rebel enemy to meet up with his regiment to the
bewilderment of all the onlookers, that not one shot was fired.
A truly wonderful celebration of this town, a shared home for
centuries to most of my ancestors living on both sides of the
Connecticut river. A nicely done genealogical record of Longmeadow
families of 100 pages is included, since published in New England
Hisorical Society. 1884. Hardcover silk cloth embossed in gilt
letters,321 pgs 22 Illustrations. Good ex-library. Listed for
reference and research only.
