- Word in Season Combe, William Esq.
A word in season to the traders and manufacturers of Great
Britain. This treatise written by William Combes, Esq, in 1792.
This would cause quite a stir in present days as he rather elequently
criques Paine's Right's of Man. excerpt; "You have no doubt,
heard much of late of about the Right's of Mnn, and are, perhaps
acquainted with the arguments promulated, with no common art, to
persuade the Englishman that they do not enjoy any of them. This
doctrine of the rights of man is supported on the principle that
all men are equal by nature, and that no one class has a real claim
to privileges which are not the common possession of all. . . We
cannot all be masters or all servants; wealth will be the lot of
the some, and labor and poverty of others. . .You have every right,
but the right of doing wrong. . . Basicly do with it what you will
is being stated. Complete disagreement with what he see's as Paine's
attempt to project a holier than thou crique of man's inalienable
rights. Much like a political parties claim we need to do well by
the poor, but its members live in lavish estates far and away. 1792.
Paper covers, pamphlet, 6th edition, 16 pgs. Extremely rare.
